Buy Local This Christmas: Sara Joy Tiberio Releases New Book, "Reaching Light Together"
A Book Written From The Soul, By NC Resident Sara Joy Tiberio.
Sara came into this world wanting to create and express herself through the arts. Writing and photography became her primary means to do this. At a young age she picked up a disposable camera and started shooting. Her primary subject at age seven? Animals. She loved to go to the zoo and photograph the animals. She later got her degree in photographic arts and built a career as a photographer. Writing poetry always remained close to her heart, but she failed to indulge it in adulthood like her other art forms. So when she turned thirty and entered a period of darkness and deep inner turmoil, she returned to poetry once again, and writing became an integral part of her healing journey.
We all go through periods of darkness. Reaching Light Together, illustrates Sara’s experience of finding hope and rediscovering light. In early 2020, Sara’s health and mental health quickly deteriorated. She began to experience a number of chronic conditions as well as debilitating anxiety. This came after a long period of over-working, and Sara felt the onset of health problems was partly due to neglecting her creative nature. She instinctively knew she had to get back to her passion of writing and the joy of photographing just for fun- not work, fun. The poems in this book became her road-map to self discovery and reconnecting with herself- finding home within.
Through an intensive emotional process and this rededication to her creativity, she began to heal. Improvements in her mental and physical health became evident. She was getting stronger, gaining energy back and her anxiety was diminishing. Above all, she continued to have hope in spite of an extended period of despair. This hope was the beacon of light she clung to. She also noticed the people who were meant to help her showed up at the time she needed it. Now after reaching the other side of this period of darkness, she seeks to inspire others to hold fast to their own hope and return to that which makes them feel more alive.
The idea to write and self-publish a book came as a nudge she couldn’t ignore, and the hardest part was just figuring out how to do this. Again, the people she needed to help her with the process showed up. Writing the book and combining her photos and poetry, was like a reunion of different parts of herself coming together in a beautiful work of art that captured her journey. It’s a journey we are invited to come along for, to explore the stunning landscapes in her nature photographs and experience the raw emotion and heart-felt sentiments in her poems. It’s a book that is deeply personal to the author, yet still feels relatable to our own life experiences. It inspires us to look more closely into our own lives to find traces of light we may have forgotten.
