Will the Newly Drawn NC Maps Stand? Wiley Nickel Prepares for Run in 13th District

From preparing to run in a crowded liberal stronghold, to a possible 50-50 toss up district, NC State Senator Wiley Nickel’s race for the U. S. House of Representatives could look vastly different, should the newly drawn Congressional maps stand up in court. You may remember our piece last month, with Senator Nickel. At that point, the battle over the Congressional maps was largely undecided. As the result of heavily gerrymandered maps drawn by Republicans, the NC Supreme Court was to decide their constitutionality. Subsequently, the NC Supreme Court ruled against the gerrymandered maps and ordered them redrawn. Now, after passing both houses in the NC Congress, the new maps are once again before the court.

Steve Gillespie and a Cup of Joe: A Week of Stand-Up Comedy in the Triangle

We met stand-up comedian Steve Gillespie at Esteamed Coffee in Downtown Cary, for a quick cup of joe. Gillespie’s in town this week, performing at venues across the Triangle. We were fortunate to catch his first of three sets organized by Matthew Hahn of The Comedy Experience, before he headlines shows Friday and Saturday at Goodnight’s Comedy Club.

V Pizza Owner Anthony Rapillo Rallies Community Support for Local Restaurants

Anthony Rapillo, owner of V Pizza on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary, is rallying support for all local restaurants, not just his own. If you’ve been out to eat recently, you’ve probably had a different experience than what you remember prior to the pandemic. While the last two years have been tough all around, brick and mortar restaurants especially, have been out there taking it on the chin. Whether its been government mandated shutdowns, pivoting of business models, labor shortages or increased food and material costs, survival has been a tremendous challenge.
